With the large-scale construction of 5G base stations, in the future, the use of fiber will be at least hundreds of millions of core kilometers, which will become the "primary beneficiary". As the "carrier" of optical communication signal, its importance has been self-evident, but how to make it give full play to the state?

In network maintenance, it is found that the cleanliness of optical fiber end face is an important factor to make a good connection between optical fiber jumper and optical fiber coupler, which directly affects the communication quality of optical network. At present, in the daily construction of optical fiber network, the optical fiber end face is easily contaminated due to irregular operation or other reasons. When a large amount of dust, oil and other dirt is attached to the end face of optical fiber, if it is not detected and cleaned, once it is connected to each other, the attenuation of optical signal will increase, resulting in optical network failure, which will seriously lead to the paralysis of the entire optical signal system.

Therefore, it can be seen that the optical fiber end face detection cleaning importance, then how to find fiber end smudges?

1. Visual inspection

Some "old drivers" in the optical communications industry check for smudgy end faces by disconnecting the device, holding the jumper up to the light and observing the refraction of the light at the end to see if the end faces are clean. But this method, feasible degree is not high, the reasons are as follows, the situation is more applicable to the optical communication system is not a full line of normal working state, otherwise it will cause a large area of network fault; (2) the situation there are many uncertain factors, not suitable for widespread use.

2. Instrument inspection

At present, there are many instruments on the market for the inspection of optical fiber end face, but the main commonly used ones are optical fiber magnifier, also known as optical fiber microscope. There is also a kind of end face inspection instrument that can clearly display the situation of the end face through LCD screen, and there is no need to disconnect the device when inspecting the end face.

The authoritative survey found that 80% of the users and 98% of the operators experienced the failure caused by unclean fiber end surfaces, and another 72% of the users and 88% of the operators experienced problems caused by poor polishing. This figure is far higher than other causes of optical fiber failure. Therefore, it is necessary to clean the end face of the clean optical fiber regularly to reduce the occurrence of failures, ensure smooth operation, save time and money.
